[MAY-19] A day disguised - Have you heard?!
“Have you heard? There’s like… some weird parasite imposter thing in this town!” “Don’t be absurd, a parasite imposter? You’ve been playing too many video games.” Elixander’s ears twitched while tuning into the conversation behind them. It was a sunny day, not too hot but not too cold, a very comfortable temperature to get out and stretch some feathers. Elixander wasn’t one to usually stroll disguised, much less go on a stroll at all, but something beckoned them today. Perhaps it was the weather, perhaps it was the fact this usually bustling town was quiet on this autumn afternoon. They were sat at a small, quaint cafe. A popular destination for those within the town. But as the town itself was quiet this day, so was the cafe. Some peace and quiet can go a long way such as Elixander.
They took a sip of their blueberry lemonade, it was a bit pricey all things considered but a little treat doesn’t hurt anyone. “I haven’t been playing any video games!! You haven’t heard the news?! There’s some fleshy alien… thing!! Roaming the town.” Elixander smirked, so they’re popular around here eh? What an honor, an honor they rightfully deserved. They weren’t one for the invasion, they’re better than that, they’re above some stupid “mother” that expects people like themself to do all her work. They would take a drill and throw hands with the mother embedded within the ground if they could. If you wanted an invasion so bad, come up here and do it yourself!
“...are you sure it’s not just some freak in a crappy cosplay?” This caused Elixander to choke on their lemonade, them? Crappy cosplay? How absurd! Not only was their outfit on point all day every day, but their undisguised form was even more so! Never in their life had they been so offended, they should turn around and smack this person across the face, perhaps then they would understa-
“Sir, are you alright?” They perked up again, looking up at a concerned waiter, and back down at their drink, their drink that they had a death grip on. So much so that they scratched it with their claws. They gulped awkwardly before looking back up. “Y-yes. I’m alright. Today has been… a frustrating day.” The waiter nodded, gesturing at their nearly empty glass. “Another blueberry lemonade?” “Yes, that would be excellent” Elixander said as they handed the glass to the waiter, hoping they wouldn’t notice the scratches, sighing as the waiter walked away.
Elixander always told themself they shouldn’t be so obsessed with their looks. Not to say that they don’t look excellent, but to the point where an offhand comment from a stranger can set them off, that itself isn’t a good look. They can’t quite help it though, something about being created and raised as artificial life… yeah, that’ll do things to your self esteem. They sigh again as their waiter returns with their drink, thanking them and immediately indulging it in, downing nearly half the glass immediately.
“Yeah, it’s called a migged nyan or something like that!” Elixander’s eyes shoot open, now where did the average everyday citizen hear THAT?! They don’t know if they should be shocked, scared, or impressed. Sure, there was that Mignyan convention from months back, but wasn’t that interpreted as some fictional sci-fi jazz? Do people truly believe in this stuff? They stare at the ice bobbing in their drink, stirring them slowly with the provided straw. This conversation had their full attention again. So the word has been spreading… despite not caring for it, they couldn’t help but wonder what this means in terms of the invasion. People are finding out, soon there will be some special Mignyan branded pepper spray type thing that’ll blow up a Mignyan crab upon contact!
No, they’re starting to sound even more insane than the person sitting behind them. “Migged… nyan? And you expect me to believe you?” You and me both, Elixander thought to themself. Thinking about it, parasitic alien crabs that fell from space to “take over the world by turning people into fleshy monsters” was an insane concept, insane enough to keep suspicion off ‘nyans such as Elixander. “Come on, I’ll show you!!” The person behind them leapt up, grabbing the wrist of the person they were talking to and running off. As they did, Elixander made eye contact with the person being dragged away, almost like a plea for help.
“Better them than me” Elixander mumbled to themself, finally able to enjoy the weather and their lemonade once more.
Elixander overhears some gossip about Mignyans present in their town during one of their rare disguised days out.
