[MAY-21] Happy Birthday, Kai

Kai brushed down her white dress shirt, looking over it slightly before turning to her cat, Mallow and sighing. 

“Mallow! Look at me! Your fur is all over my grad shirt!” She huffed

Mallow, the dark furred cat, just sat there swishing his tail while looking at his disgruntled owner. Kai let out a little laugh before just shaking her head and grabbing the lint roller. She hummed as she attempted to get the fur off her blouse. A sudden knock shocked her to her senses, she realized she wasn’t disguised - afterall Mallow didn’t care much

“One second!! I’m changing!” She quickly yelled at the door of which the knob was starting to turn

“Oh, Sorry!” Her Brother spoke on the other side as she quickly moved to disguise herself. “ Pop and Dad just wanted me to let you know that it's almost time to leave for the graduation ceremony, so you have to hurry up, I’ll meet you downstairs” 

After that conversation, Thorne made his way down the stairs away from his sister’s door, leaving her to sigh in relief. Kai turned to Mallow, still not having disguised herself yet and just sat next to him.

“Oh Mallow...How will I tell them? Do you think they’ll hate us?” She pulled her bunny ear like meat appendages close to her body, clearly worried “I mean, I can’t hide this forever.”

The black cat paws at the graduation robes that she had put over her dress shirt, causing the Mignyan to giggle a bit. He was trying to comfort her, no matter what. Kai was his owner and that’s what it was, they were friends. Mallow was going to stick by her and she was going to stick by him.

“ You’re right, why worry? I’m sure I can hide it till we’re able to move out” She chuckled, only 26 she was rather young to be receiving a doctorate. 

She had worked hard over these past years, skipping a few grades and fast tracking helped as well but she was a smart person and no one could deny that. She excelled with her academics but also with social skills. This made her particularly good with psychology and helped her along the way for her PhD.

She stood up and looked at herself in the mirror. She did it. She achieved their dream, Kai’s dream was real, her dream was real. She felt a wave of sadness for her lost host, a desperate woman who just wanted to be helped but no one would listen. She had met her that day in the hospital after Kai had been admitted for a self-inflicted throat injury. It was so clear to her that Kai was struggling but all anyone asked the doctors was when she could be out, when she could continue. 

She spent time with her as she recovered. Told each other their dreams, their hopes and their fears. They were truly best friends, truly close. Kai had told her about how her disabilities blocked off a lot of her previous dreams and how now she would pursue psychology so she could help people like her. 

Now Kai is gone because of her and she hates that fact even though she knows it’s what she wanted. She knows that Kai was unwell and no one would listen to her. So she gave her body to her and now they listen.

She sighed and turned back to Mallow with a pitiful smile “I love you Mister Mal-Mal”

Mallow let out a gentle meow and rubbed against her leg, comforting her, assuring her it was all okay. They were all okay. 

She took some deep breaths with him helping her and then turned to the door, looking at the pictures on it from memories that were now hers but not originally so. She smiled as she knew that Kai was still there, even if she was now her. 

She walked up to the door turning back to wish Mallow a good day, disguised herself and grabbed the doorknob. It was time to truly complete their dream. A PhD in psychology. She looked at the calendar right before leaving the house. It was almost her birthday, she smiled, Happy Birthday, Kai.
